Avengers: Doomsday Cast Teases Robert Downey Jr.’s Doom, Chris Evans’ Return and More MCU Surprises

The cast of Avengers: Doomsday offered few concrete plot details in a group interview, but made clear that Marvel’s next crossover is being protected by an unusually strict secrecy operation. Several cast members said no one had seen a finished cut, while the production reportedly circulated multiple script versions to keep the story under wraps. Even without revealing the plot, the actors described the film as unusually ambitious and unlike anything they had previously made.

Robert Downey Jr. also discussed the challenge of playing Victor von Doom after defining the MCU as Tony Stark. He described the two characters as sharing scientific brilliance and intelligence, but emphasized that Tony’s trauma pushed him toward heroism while Doom stands on the opposite side of that divide. Downey said wearing Doom’s mask created an isolated experience on set, leaving him separated from the other actors as the film’s central enemy.

Chris Evans explained that returning to the MCU as Steve Rogers took years of consideration. After Avengers: Endgame, he turned down several pitches because none felt right for the character, who had become especially important to him. Downey’s involvement ultimately helped make the latest idea feel like the right opportunity, while Evans stressed that he was not willing to revisit Captain America simply for the sake of returning.

The interview also highlighted the film’s expanding connections to the wider Marvel universe. Letitia Wright described Shuri’s growth from the scientist introduced in Black Panther into a more established leader, while reacting warmly to David Jonsson’s casting as the next Black Panther. Rebecca’s return as Mystique was linked to a major fight with Florence Pugh’s Yelena, evoking the hard-edged action of the original X-Men films without turning the film into a simple nostalgia play.

The cast further fueled speculation around Ryan Gosling’s reported Ghost Rider role, including playful discussion of a possible crossover with other motorcycle-riding Marvel characters. They were similarly careful when asked whether Avengers: Secret Wars would function as a direct continuation of Doomsday, suggesting only that the two films may not repeat the structure of Infinity War and Endgame. For now, the cast’s enthusiasm—and the film’s layers of secrecy—remain the clearest signs that Doomsday is being positioned as a major turning point for the MCU.
