The Devil Wears Prada 2″ Arrived on Disney+ After Proving That Nostalgia Can Also Make a Billion

Por Thiago Rangel01 de August de 2026

The Devil Wears Prada 2, available on Disney+ since the end of July, is proof that a sequel doesn't have to come quickly to work — sometimes the secret is precisely to wait two whole decades.

In theaters, the result was impressive: released in May 2026 with a budget of US$ 100 million (well above the US$ 40 million of the original 2006 film), the movie grossed more than US$ 670 million worldwide by the end of its theatrical run — comfortably surpassing the US$ 326.5 million accumulated by the first film throughout its entire run. In just ten days in theaters, the sequel had already surpassed the original's total box office, and it even ranked among the five biggest releases of 2026.

The success now on streaming follows an almost obvious logic: a film of this size, with this kind of audience reception, arrives on the platform with an army of fans already waiting to watch it again (or finally watch it) without leaving home. Add to that the genuine nostalgia factor — bringing back the original cast 20 years later is the kind of proposition that works both for those who saw the first film in theaters and for a new generation that only knows "The Devil Wears Prada" as a streaming classic.

The cast helps sustain the interest: Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway remain among Hollywood's most respected names, and Lady Gaga's participation in the cast of this sequel gave the film an extra hook for conversation on social media, expanding its reach beyond the franchise's traditional audience.

From a 2000s classic to a box-office phenomenon two decades later, "The Devil Wears Prada 2" shows that Miranda Priestly remains just as intimidating — and just as profitable — as she has always been.
