Pirates of the Caribbean – Growing World

By Thiago Rangel — August 22, 2026

Following the success of the first film, Dead Man’s Chest (2006) and At World’s End (2007) expanded the universe on an epic scale — proving that Pirates of the Caribbean had far more mythology to explore beyond the Black Pearl.

This was the era when Davy Jones entered the picture: legendary captain of the Flying Dutchman, condemned to roam the seas with a crew transformed into sea creatures, bound by a debt to the ocean and a heart literally carved from his chest. His presence brought an even darker and more fantastical layer to the franchise, along with one of the most iconic musical themes in modern cinema.

Alongside him came the East India Trading Company, the saga’s real-world threat — corporate, ruthless, and determined to eradicate piracy and control the seas through means far less supernatural than Jones’s. The clash between these two forces — the mystical and the institutional — gave the story a new level of complexity.

Then came the ultimate expansion: the Pirate Lords, a council of legendary captains from across the seven seas, and Calypso, the ocean goddess imprisoned in human form. With them, Pirates of the Caribbean evolved from the story of a group of adventurers into something much larger — an entire mythology, filled with gods, ancient pacts, and a world that existed long before Jack Sparrow ever entered the picture.

It was the phase in which the universe proved it could grow without losing its soul: darker, more complex, but always faithful to the spirit of adventure that made it unforgettable.
