Pirates of the Caribbean – New Characters

By Thiago Rangel — August 22, 2026

After the original trilogy brought one chapter to a close, the franchise reinvented itself by introducing new faces to share the seas with Jack Sparrow — proving that the universe had room to grow beyond the cast that had made it famous.

In On Stranger Tides (2011), the saga moved away from Will and Elizabeth to introduce Blackbeard, the most feared pirate on the seas, a dark figure capable of controlling his own crew through voodoo dolls. Alongside him came Angelica, who brought a new dynamic to Jack: a sharp, ambiguous former lover just as skilled with words as he was, along with a surprising family connection to Blackbeard himself. The search for the Fountain of Youth gave this chapter a more mystical and intimate tone, even amid the franchise’s usual epic scale.

Then, in Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017), the new generation took shape with Henry Turner, the son of Will and Elizabeth, driven by a mission to break the curse of the Flying Dutchman and save his father, and Carina Smyth, an astronomer and cartographer whose intelligence and skepticism toward the supernatural made her an unexpected partner for Jack. The film also brought the past back to haunt Sparrow through Captain Salazar, a pirate hunter turned vengeful ghost, obsessed with destroying him.

This was the phase in which the franchise showed that its formula — charismatic heroes, larger-than-life villains, and a touch of the supernatural — did not depend on any particular set of names to work. There was still room for the universe to sail on with new crews at the helm.
