Harry Potter – Set TV

By Thiago Rangel — August 12, 2026

Unlike DC and Marvel, whose heroes migrated to TV decades after their comic book creation, Harry Potter never had its own television phase — Rowling’s path went straight from books to cinema, with no detour through series or cartoons that would fragment the narrative into smaller formats.

The idea, from the very beginning of negotiations with Hollywood in 1999, was always to preserve the integrity of a single, continuous story, rather than slicing it into weekly episodes. Rowling, aware of the power of that newly created universe, imposed strict conditions on how it could be adapted — demanding a predominantly British cast and fidelity to the original material, refusing deviations that could dilute what had taken years to build.

This deliberate absence of a traditional television phase, however, would gain a late and unexpected chapter decades later: in 2025, HBO began production on a new series based on the books, planned to span multiple seasons, revisiting the complete saga with a pacing that the films, due to time constraints, could never fully explore.

This return to the serialized format, decades after the original phenomenon, shows something that few universes can sustain: the ability to reinvent their own way of existing, proving that even after conquering the cinema, there was still room to tell the same story in a new way.
